Democracy now! 

A performative parody of the daily and constant choices we make. In this performance, we see an elegant female conductor with a long list of questions, who warmly invites the audience, after each question, to express their choice. 

This can be loud or in silence, soft-spoken or emotional. 

The questions are a mix of the mundane, the absurd, and classic dilemmas, such as “marriage or poly amorous”, “dream or nightmare” "coffee or tea,”, “ wine or beer”, "village or city,” “dictatorship or anarchy” “Berlin or Munich," "heaven or hell," “steak or vegan," “winners or fleamarket” “Rainer Maria Rilke or Rainer Werner Fassbinder”, ”freedom or prison," "tattoo or makeup," “ Botox or wrinkles” etc. etc. etc. 

After about 100 questions, the conductor invites the audience to take the open mic and leaves the stage with their long list. The audience now becomes participants and can ask questions until an alarm goes off. History of the performance: I presented this performance in Berlin in April at Bettolab, a venue dedicated to experimental performance in Kreuzberg, and was pleasantly surprised by the comic and yet intimate encounter with the audience. 

Spectators interacted, laughed, and after the performance, complimented me and playfully threw other questions my way. 

This performative parody aims to engage and entertain, while leaving a lasting impression that we are constantly making choices, from the moment we wake up until we go to bed. 

I then presented Democracy Now! at Montreal's Far festival and lately at Clio art fair in New York.. 

This performance is heavily inspired by the Dada movement, where language was often used as a tool to reveal the absurdities of our lives. 

There's also a Fluxus element in this performance: the element of surprise and the unknown. Interaction with the audience will be of paramount importance, as I consider them my participants.  

They will add flavour and spice to this intervention.
