Siren

2012

In my early fifties I finally found the freedom I was looking for so long, finding back the wild young girl that wants to play and gives herself the best roles ever.

I always was fascinated by mermaids and realizing no one would ever cast a menopausal actress to present a tale from the sea, I decided to sew my own tale.

As in a fever, I wrote and created an adult fairy tale dealing with themes as obsessive love, jealousy, rage and revenge.

The result is Mermaid/La sirene, in which I perform the mermaid, the captain and the sea witch.

It is a highly bilingual and interactive performance piece, where a retired Siren talks and re loves her love life with sailors and captains and performs a voodooesque ritual in order to keep the love of her life.

The performance is intimate and gives the audience/participants the challenge to create this tale together with me, as if we were children again, making up a story with simple means and little direction.

This piece was part of The International Home Theatre festival and premiered in my salon, which was a blast, furthermore I performed Mermaid at the festival

Theatre de rue in Lachine in the open air in the summer
of 2012.
