Tanz / Hommage Fromage

2026

In a striking intersection of raw performance art and local heritage, Tanz was reimagined as a centerpiece of Homage Fromage—an avant-garde initiative curated by the collective Le Radeau.

Hosted within the storied, atmospheric halls of Cité des Hospitalières, the performance offered a unique dialogue between the site’s history and contemporary physical theater.

In this iteration, Jacqueline van de Geer takes on the daunting task of interpreting Tanz by Florentina Holzinger.

Rather than a direct replica, Van de Geer delivers a deeply personal "homage," filtering Holzinger’s visceral exploration of the body, discipline, and the cult of beauty through her own seasoned, multidisciplinary lens. Van de Geer channels the "wild" spirit of the original—known for its fusion of classical ballet tropes and stunt-like physicality—while grounding it in her signature style of intimate, confrontational storytelling.

Utilizing specific elements from Holzinger’s original work, the performance deconstructs the rigors of the stage, blending high-energy action with moments of profound vulnerability.

The industrial and ecclesiastical echoes of the Cité des Hospitalières provided a backdrop that amplified the themes of ritual and bodily endurance.

"A bold reimagining that honors the chaotic energy of Holzinger while showcasing Van de Geer’s singular ability to transform pain and parody into high art."

Tanz stands as a testament to the power of artistic lineage, proving that even the most provocative contemporary works can find new life and meaning when placed in the hands of a dedicated performer and a visionary collective.
